Roger J: 60+ Years LaterWhen I was a 3-year old in the late 1950s, my mom used to take me (and later my brother and me) to Henry's on Galbraith Road in Cincinnati's Finneytown neighborhood. We called it "The -Man-in-the-Moon" because of the big smiling hamburger bun on the sign. It was always a treat that we cheered when we were told we're going to the Man-in-the-Moon. I will always remember the cheeseburger with the tangy sauce. We would either eat on the picnic tables outside the restaurant or we would drive to a nearby park and enjoy our meal. Sadly, Henry's closed in Cincinnati in the late 1960s and was replaced by a Wendy's 😫. |

Fast forward 60+ years. Mom's gone now and I'm retired. I have traveled and lived all over the world and have eaten thousands of hamburgers from virtually every continent. But none resembled my memory of the taste of Henry's. My latest home is in Southeast Michigan where we have been for 8 years. But later this year, we're headed east to Virginia which will likely be our final move. I recently discovered that Henry's still has one location open in Benton Harbor. So this week, we will check off an important item on the bucket list. I am going to take a road trip with my wife and daughter to visit the "Man-in-the-Moon" in Benton Harbor and I hope to relive a very memorable treat, a Henry's cheeseburger!

B Cook: Memories of Great Burgers
Boy do I remember you! I remember your restaurant in my old home town of Niagara Falls, N.Y. located on Military Road back in the 1960s. I loved your burgers and will never forget you guys. I also remember your restaurant located in Buffalo, N.Y. owned by football great Ernie Warwick. He employed black youth. Henry's is gone but my memories are not. Thank you.

David Sadowski: Henry's in ChicagoFYI, here is a picture that shows the sign from the Henry's Hamburgers that was located at Fullerton and Central on Chicago's west side (along with a Chicago Transit Authority trolley bus). The picture was taken by the late Jeffrey L. Wien in March 1961. I do remember eating there and at several other Henry's locations. I hope to visit yours later this year. - David Sadowski, The Trolley Dodger January 23, 2025 |

Duane Kolsrud: Warming Up at Henry's
When we were kids, we used to tube and sled on the hill next to Henry's on Mt. Vernon Road in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We would head to Henry's for hot chocolate and the best french fries in town to warm up and then head back out again for hours of winter fun.
