Steven Francis: Kansas City Kansas
In 1967 my parents opened up a brand new Henry's Hamburgers Drive-In Restaurant. My mother, father, myself and my two sisters operated and managed the restaurant until 1971. In addition, our family also operated and managed another Henry's Hamburgers restaurant in Overland Park Kansas.
I worked at both restaurants while going to highschool and it was a learning experience as well as one of the best times of my life. I remember the five hamburgers and half pound french fries promotions we threw on weekends. My father and I worked the grill together. Believe it or not we went through 300 dozen hamburger buns in three days.
Employing highschool students means turnover was high but we also employed steady and faithful adult employees as well. I often wonder what became of all those employees. After the restaurants closed our family went on to pursue other careers. My father became an agriculture meat inspector for the state of Kansas. My mother returned to secretarial employment. My sisters both worked in the medical field and I eventually went into the environmental, health, and safety management arena.
My name is Steven Francis I'm 71 years old and I live with my wife in Smithville, Missouri. Flipping hamburgers at Henry's Hamburgers Drive-In Restaurant is one of my most fond memories of all. It was not just a job!!!
